MARTIN VAN BUREN DOCUMENT, AS PRESIDENT, REGARDING COMMUNICATION TO THE EMPEROR OF RUSSIA. Partially-printed signed document instructing the Secretary of State to affix the seal of the U.S. to the envelope of a response to the Tsar, who had sent a formal announcement of his granddaughter Alexandria. Dated June 17, 1840, the year Van Buren was defeated for re-election by Harrison. Very nice condition, with large, bold signature. 8 x 10." LOA Spence and Grad PSA/DNA.
