Martin Van Buren Autograph Letter Signed. One page with integral address cover, 7.75" x 9.5"; April 14, 1823. A provocative letter to Stephen Van Rensselaer: "When I had the pleasure of seeing you last I hinted that there was a subject on which I contemplated speaking to you. The enclosed papers explain it... the high respect in which I hold your good opinion, have induced me to communicate to you, what is yet & will continue to be a profound secret to all my most confidential friends... It will give me pleasure to learn that you approve the course I have taken..." Accompanied by an 8.5" x 11" engraving of Van Buren. Repairs to integral address sheet in no way affecting text of letter. Even toning with mail folds and light creasing.
