Description

John Quincy Adams Signed Land Grant. One partially printed page on vellum, 15 x 9 ½ inches, Washington; October 1, 1825. Land grant awarding William Stackhouse eighty acres of land "in the District of Choctaw and the State of Mississippi." Signed, "J.Q. Adams" and countersigned by George Graham, commissioner of the General Land Office. In 1800, Congress passed the Mississippi land bill as part of the broader Harrison Land Act of 1800. In doing so, the U.S. government established two land offices in charge of administering land sales in Mississippi.

Condition: Creased along folds with staining throughout, particularly along bottom margin. Bottom margin buckled, upper right corner folded, and open tears along top and right margins. Seal intact.
