Description

John F. Kennedy: Signed Profiles in Courage (New York: Harper & Brothers, 1956).This is the desirable first edition, first printing, 266 pages, photographic plates, quarter black over blue cloth boards, spine in gilt, dust jacket, signed on the front end page "John F. Kennedy. " The book is in excellent condition with minimal shelf wear. Senator Kennedy wrote this, his second book, while recovery from back surgery in 1954-5. He was aided in his efforts by speechwriter Ted Sorenson and research assistants. Printed at the end of 1955, it was officially released to the public on January 1, 1956, and became a best-seller, receiving the Pulitzer Prize for Biography in 1957. This example was obtained from the estate of Floyd M. Boring, one of Kennedy's best-liked secret service agents, who helped foil the Truman assassination attempt at Blair House and participated in the planning of JFK's ill-fated trip to Dallas. The signature, which we believe dates from JFK's time as a U.S. Senator, is clear and bold, making this a prime example of his most famous book.
