Description

John F. Kennedy: President Kennedy and the Joint Chiefs of Staff Signed Photo. This incredible color photo was taken just prior to the Cuban missile crisis, 14.5" x 12.5" sight size. It shows a smiling President Kennedy standing just outside the White House Oval Office with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It is signed by all six in the lower white margin: "John F. Kennedy", "Curtis E. Le May" (Air Force), "L. L. Lemnitzer" (Chairman), "George H. Decker" (Army), "George Anderson" (Navy) and "David M. Shoup" (Marines). Shortly after this congenial photo was taken, the Cuban Missile Crisis erupted. In considering their options, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at EXCOMM meetings with the President, unanimously recommended a full-scale attack and invasion of Cuba as the only option. They also advised that the installation of Soviet missiles in Cuba seriously affected the strategic balance of power... a conclusion not shared by Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara. The events associated with the crisis have defined the Kennedy presidency, when the two super-powers teetered on the brink of all-out nuclear war. The photo is custom matted and framed with a small plaque inscribed "President Kennedy with Joint Chiefs of Staff Summer 1962". This is a highly displayable JFK autographed photo, worthy of any collection. Ex: Collection of General Lyman L. Lemnitzer.
