John F. Kennedy: Autograph Note. One page on the back of Texas Executive Department letterhead, 8" x 11", Austin; [September 1960]. Written on the back of a handwritten note by Texas Governor Price Daniel, Kennedy's notes read, "Austin - Founded by people who were not satisfied with things as they were. Who felt they could do better. The story of Texas is the story of man's confidence in himself & his state / Today (1)." Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Kennedy's personal secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, offering further contextualization.

In September 1960, Democratic presidential candidate Kennedy traveled to Austin, Texas to give a series of speeches in support of his campaign. On September 13, Kennedy offered several remarks on the steps of the Texas Capitol. Just over three years later, Kennedy was scheduled to return to Austin on November 23, 1963, to deliver a speech to the Texas Democratic State Committee. The day before he was due in the capital city, he was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas.

Condition: Heavily toned and creased along folds. Minor staining to the left margin.
