Description

John F. Kennedy: Autograph Note. One page, 7" x 4.5", no place, though written aboard Air Force One; [July 8, 1963]. Handwritten note by the president while traveling from Hyannisport, Massachusetts to Washington, D.C. The note reads, in full, "Capitalist investment / in France / & abroad / use of money curbed." The note is stapled to a corresponding newspaper article and accompanied by a letter of provenance from Kennedy's private secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, offering further contextualization.

Lincoln writes, "Kennedy was in his Cabin in the airplane scanning the newspaper when he came across this news item, which he tore out and attached the sheet from the 'Aboard Air Force One' tablet upon which he scribbled his notes." The article, whose headline reads, "Foreign Groups Find U.S. Money Easy to Get" focuses on the U.S. Treasury's recent efforts to curb international borrowing within the American market.

Condition: Lightly toned and creased along folds. The newspaper article is toned with an irregular left margin.
