Description

John Adams: Signed Ship's Passport. Single sheet of vellum, 11.75" x 18", dated May 15, 1799. The passport was issued in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to "Brig Ceres George Cutts master or commander of the burthen of one hundred eighteen 53/98 tons or thereabouts mounted with no guns navigated with eight men." Countersigned by Timothy Pickering as Secretary of State. Floated in a recessed frame to an overall size of 18" x 25.25". Small square hole affecting the letter "D" in "ADAMS".

Condition: Fold lines, else fine.
