Newly Appointed President James K. Polk Grants Clemency in a Case Involving a Steamboat

James K. Polk Document Signed ("James K. Polk"). One partially printed page, 10 x 8 inches; Washington; May 21, 1845.

Newly appointed 11th President, James K. Polk, orders the Secretary of State to affix the official Seal of the United States on a document that forgives the fines and penalties imposed on the steamboat Odd Fellow and its Master, Charles H. Fraser:

"I hereby authorize and direct the Secretary of State to affix the seal of the United States to the remission of forfeiture and penalties incurred in the case of the steamboat Odd Fellow, Charles H. Fraser, Master.

Dated this day and signed by me and for so doing this shall be his warrant. James K. Polk."

Condition: In overall very fine condition, the paper with horizontal fold marks and two small mounting strips on verso left-hand side, a faint triangular fold mark top left corner, and negligible scattered and faint stains.
