Jackie Kennedy writes about diet drugs.
Jacqueline Kennedy: Autograph Note. Unsigned, one page, 5" x 8", White House note page, no place, no date. Jackie writes, in full: "This is the best appetite suppressant there is- They give it to you when you are having a baby so that shows it is safe- If you can just remember to take it 1 hr before lunch & dinner- you can't eat - even if you are starved - And it doesn't make one all revved up & nervous like Dexedrine - Dexedrine is dangerous because it makes people use more energy than they have - Dexedrine can only lead to exhaustion & to sleeping pills to counteract it - This can be refilled by Dr. Travell, Dr Walsh, Dr Young, Dr Berkeley, or the doctor here - in 5 minutes - Please try it - It made Miss Shaw [Maud Shaw, the children's nanny] lose 20 lbs- & me gain only 18 having Patrick - instead of 45 -" There is a black-bordered, printed free-frank Jacqueline Kennedy envelope included also in this lot, canceled in 1965 and addressed to Robert Foster c/o the U.S. Secret Service in Columbus, Ohio. It is unknown if it is the original envelope of transmittal for this letter. Certainly interesting content. Near fine condition.
