Description

George Washington Three Language Ship's Papers Signed. One sheet, 13.25" x 16.25", January 19, 1796. Issued in English, French, and Dutch to "William Parsons as master or commander of the Schooner Dolphin of Cushing of the burthen of One hundred twentyone tons or thereabouts...bound for Jamaica and laden with Beef, Butter, Candles, Fish, Lard, Lumber, Oil, Pork, Stoves, Sausages." Countersigned by Timothy Pickering "now executing the office of Secretary of State" and Benjamin Weld as Deputy Collector of Customs. Chipped edges. Folds have detached, but the document has been archivally repaired by mounting it to a heavy backing board. General toning with few foxing spots. Washington's signature remains bold and damage is unseen; blind embossed seals are intact.
