Description
George Washington Excised Signature "Go: Washington" as president taken from a three-language ship's papers with countersignatures by Secretary of State Timothy Pickering and New York Mayor Richard Varick. 8.25" x 3.5", circa 1796. The browned paper exhibits some weakness and separation along folds, none affecting Washington's signature. The signature is hinged along the left edge to page 142 of the Report of Senate Documents, Volume 72 (U.S. Government Printing Office, 1853), which has been removed from the original book (the book is not included). On the verso of the page are affixed columns from pre-Civil War newspaper or magazine articles.Auction Info
