George Washington Appointment Signed as President. One page of vellum, 16.5" x 12.5", Philadelphia; January 28, 1794. A document appointing "[Tho]mas Lowry of New Jersey....Marshal of and for the New Jersey District...for the term of four years..." Signed by Washington as President, "Go: Washington". Countersigned by Edmund Randolph as secretary of state. With embossed paper seal intact.

Condition: Dampstaining at left and right edges affecting some text including signature. Repaired paper loss at both edges, with some text affected. A few scattered pinholes. Soiled.
