Description
Franklin D. Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed as President. One page, 6.5" x 8" (sight), White House, Washington, D.C.; March 8, 1934. Addressed to Miss Rhoda Hinkley in Poughkeepsie, New York on official "White House" letterhead. FDR thanks Hinkley for the "neighborly" letter she sent on the occasion of his administration's first anniversary and congratulates her on the apparent success she's had in caring for a disabled child, a condition the president undoubtedly empathized with. It reads, in full:"Thanks ever so much for that nice neighborly letter you have sent me on the Administration's first anniversary. The information as to conditions is all very interesting and I appreciate your sending it to me. Your success with the little crippled child must be the greatest possible satisfaction to you. Heartiest congratulations both to you and the little one, and more power to you!" Signed, "Franklin D. Roosevelt".
Rhoda Hinkley Hunt was a dedicated Roosevelt supporter from his home of Duchess County, New York. The two corresponded a number of times throughout his administration. The letter is handsomely matted and framed with a print copy of the rare photograph of FDR in his wheelchair with Ruthie Bie, granddaughter of Hyde Park's caretakers, and his Scottish terrier, Fala. The overall size of the display is 16" x 22.5". Not examined outside of the frame.
Condition: Smoothed folds. Roosevelt's signature has faded a bit.
