Description

Benjamin Harrison Letter Signed as President. Two pages of a gilt-edge bifolium, 10 ½ x 14 inches, Washington, September 29, 1890, to His Excellency Carlos Pellegrini, Constitutional President of the Argentine Republic. Countersigned by Alvey A. Adee as Acting Secretary of State. The President signs a letter offering his congratulations and support to Pellegrini, writing, in part: "I have received the letter of August 6th last, by which Your Excellency informs me, that, in virtue of Article 75 of the Constitution of the Argentine Republic, you, on that day, assumed the Executive Power of the Nation...Your Excellency further assures me of your desire to cultivate and strengthen the cordial relations which happily exist between the United States and the Argentine Republic. I fully reciprocate your sentiments, and I am happy to give expression to the desire of the people of the United States for the continued prosperity of the Argentine Republic..." Signed, "Benj. Harrison."

Pellegrini, the former Vice President, assumed the Presidency upon Miguel Ángel Juárez Celman's resignation. With a letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
