Benjamin Harrison Civil War Photograph Signed, circa March 1865. Measuring 9" x 11.75", the future president is seen with three fellow division and brigade commanders of the 3rd division, 20th Army Corps. Harrison is seen standing at left, bearded and in uniform. To his left sits Bvt. Major General William Thomas Ward. Standing at Ward's left are Bvt. Brigadier Generals Daniel Dustin and William Cogswell. All four men have signed below their likenesses. Lightly silvered in the darkened areas.

Benjamin Harrison was twenty-eight years old when he enlisted in the Union Army as a captain (he was promoted to colonel less than two weeks later) in the 70th Indiana Infantry in the summer of 1862. He joined Sherman two years later and participated in the Atlanta Campaign (seeing action in several major battles) before being sent northeast in time to take part in the Battle of Nashville. In January 1865 he was given a brevet commission to brigadier general by President Lincoln. He mustered out of the army in June 1865.
