Description

Abraham Lincoln Signed Military Appointment. Oversized vellum sheet, 15 ¾ x 19 ½ inches; City of Washington, March 8, 1864. A document appointing Joseph H. Linsley "Assistant Adjutant General of Volunteers with the rank of Captain." Signed, "Abraham Lincoln" and countersigned by Edwin Stanton as Secretary of War.

Condition: Lincoln's large and bold signature has a single fold through the top of the A and L, but remains largely unaffected. Flattened folds and slight buckling. Document is hinged to a larger board with two small tabs at the top of the document (which can be easily removed). Blue paper seal has a few small points missing or folded over.
