Description

Abraham Lincoln Signed Military Appointment. Single sheet of vellum, 12.75" x 18.25" (sight); City of Washington; May 24, 1864. The document appoints James Stanage "Commissary of Subsistence of Volunteers with the rank of Captain." Countersigned by Edwin Stanton as Secretary of War. Matted and framed to an overall size of 20.5" x 26".

Condition: Stray stains throughout, with light toning. The engrossment is a bit light, but Lincoln's signature remains bold. General wear to frame.
