Description

Abraham Lincoln: Signed Endorsement. 3.25" x 7" two-sided manuscript. One side appears to be part of a letter urging the release of Daniel Murphy, a rebel prisoner held at Camp Douglas. He apparently was in Memphis when the war broke out and commandeered into the rebel army. The other side contains a note from Illinois Senator Lyman Trumbull dated March 7, 1865. "Application for release of Daniel Harigan, a prisoner at Camp Douglas. Application endorsed by Hon. B. C. Cook, & presents a proper case for consideration." The President accedes to the request: "Let this man take the oath of Dec. 8. 1863 & be discharged. A. Lincoln March 9, 1865". An interesting case involving the release of a rebel prisoner from a Union P. O. W. camp. Bold signatures.

Condition: Excellent.
