Abraham Lincoln Signed Carte de Visite by Matthew Brady. 2 1/2 x 4 inches (sight). Boldly signed, "A. Lincoln" on the albumen. It has been certified and encapsulated by PSA to the overall size of 4 1/4 x 7 1/4 inches.

A vignette version of O-84 in Lincoln in Photographs, this pose of a relaxed President Lincoln was taken by Mathew B. Brady in Washington, D.C. on Friday, January 8, 1864. Gold-rule border with "Brady Washington" imprint on recto and "Brady's National Photographic Portrait Galleries" back mark.

Abraham Lincoln visited Mathew Brady's Washington, D.C., studio on at least three occasions in 1864. Several portraits survive from each session, including the notable pose offered here. This image was later used as the basis for an engraving by John Chester Buttre, produced in 1864 and re-released after Lincoln's assassination in 1865.

Condition: Small crease at bottom left corner which does not touch signature, with a few scattered areas of minute soiling. In fine condition with a strong dark signature.
