Description

Abraham Lincoln Releases Prisoners Four Days Before His Assassination! An Endorsement Signed "A Lincoln" on a lined sheet 3" x 2.625", np, April 10, 1865. In full, "Let these Prisoners be discharged on taking the oath of Dec. 8, 1863. April 10, 1865". A very poignant item- Lincoln shows mercy to prisoners of war during the week in which John Wilkes Booth showed no mercy to him. This has to be one of the last times that Abraham Lincoln ever signed his name- an exceptional opportunity! About fine condition; folds light toning on the left edge, hinged at top to larger sheet. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
