Abraham Lincoln Officer Commission Document Signed. One page, 15.75" x 19", on vellum, partly printed, Washington, February 27, 1862. An appointment of David H. Vinton to "Deputy Quartermaster General with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel." David Hammond Vinton was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1803, and enlisted in 1847 as a major. He was brevetted major general during the Civil War, and retired in 1866. Boldly signed by Lincoln as President at the conclusion, and countersigned by Edwin Stanton as Secretary of War. Fine condition; folds as expected, and a bit of ink transfer near a couple of the folds, seal present and perfect, docketing notes in upper left corner. Service record of Vinton included.Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
