Abraham Lincoln Free Frank Signed "A. Lincoln." 5" x 2.75", Washington, D.C.; postmarked August 7, 1863. Addressed to David Davis in Bloomington, Illinois.

David Davis (1815-1886) was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1862 after a seat was vacated when John A. Campbell resigned in protest of the war. Davis served as Lincoln's campaign manager at the 1860 Republican National Convention.

Condition: Uneven toning, with light soiling. Torn open at the left vertical edge. Mounting residue on verso at the top two corners. Boldly signed by Lincoln.
