Description

Abraham Lincoln Autograph Endorsement Signed. On the back of a two-page letter (of a bifolium) from Brigadier General Israel B. Richardson, 5" x 8", March 6, 1862. The original letter is addressed to Senator Trumbull requesting that his cousin, James Miller Haslbert of Albion, Illinois, receive the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Lincoln endorses the document on the last page in full: "Gen. Richardson should be obliged in this matter, if possible. I will thank the Sec. of War, if he will find a way to do it." Signed, "A. Lincoln."

Condition: Three 1" closed tears along creases repaired with archival tape. Small area of staining on upper right corner of first page. Lightly toned.
