Abraham Lincoln Appointment Signed as president. One partially printed page, 17.75" x 11.5", Washington, July 16, 1861, countersigned by William H. Seward as secretary of state, appointing "Charles R. McFadden...by and with the advice and consent of the Senate...Deputy Postmaster at Waterville, in the State of Maine...And to have and to hold the said Office...for the term of four years...'" Blind stamped Seal of the United States in the lower left. Upper right corner chipped; one small chip on left edge. Light, uneven toning. Ghosting from the seal over Lincoln's signature, which remains bold and bright.
