Description

[Abraham Lincoln]: Grant Declines a Request for Lincoln's Autograph. 5"x 3" slip of folded writing paper inscribed: "I would gladly accommodate you but I have not a single copy of Mr. Lincoln's signature left except such as are attached to commissions. [signed] U. S. Grant". For some unknown reason, Grant did not want to part with his military commissions signed by Lincoln. Handsomely matted and framed with CDVs of Lincoln and Grant plus a caption card. The frame was designed by Donald Dow and produced by Newcomb Macklin of Chicago.
