Lear, who served as George Washington's personal secretary, signs a letter written from the "War Department Accountants Office" settling accounts for "Captain John A. Thomas of the 25th Inf. He has been credited with expences incurred in pursuing & apprehending the following deserters...". Flattened folds and docketed on verso.
