Description

Mirabeau Lamar Autograph Document Signed "Mirabeau B. Lamar." One page, 9" x 6.5", Houston, February 5, 1839. President Lamar request orders a payment: "The Secretary of the Treasury will pay to Saml. Whiting Five hundred and sixty three dollars out of the Printing fund." Docketed on verso.

Lamar (1798-1859) was serving as the second elected president of the Texas Republic, a term that he held from 1838 through 1841. Whiting was the public printer for the Republic of Texas at this time, and was appointed midshipman by Lamar.

Condition: Usual folds, light toning at edges and folds, slightly rough lower edge. Otherwise very fine.
