Description

John Hancock Appointment Signed as governor of Massachusetts. Two pages with integral blank, 9" x 14.5", Boston, February 16, 1781, granting "unto the said William Walker the Office of a Register of Wills, Administrations, Inventories, Accounts, Decrees, Orders, Determinations and other Writings which shall be made or granted by the Judge of Probate of Wills . . . in the County of Berkshire." Hancock's beautiful signature is bold and bright. Countersigned by John Avery, James Barker, and Charles Goodrich. Folds are weakened in places with some minor loss of paper, especially at the intersection of the main vertical and horizontal fold. Scattered spots of foxy. Hancock's signature has bled through slightly from the verso.
