Description
John Hancock and William Heath Document Signed. One page of a bifolium, 7 ½ x 12 inches, Boston; February 4, 1773. Hancock appoints Nathaniel Wells, Jr. as attorney, allowing him to "take & receive seizin [sic] and possession of any lands tenements or real estate belonging to Joshua Bragdon of Wells aforesaid Trader, upon which any executions obtained by me at the Inferiour Court of Common pleas held at Boston..." Signed, "John Hancock." Also signed by William Heath.Four months after this document was signed, Hancock collaborated with Samuel Adams to publish a series of letters written by Massachusetts Governor, Thomas Hutchinson, in which Hutchinson appeared to call for reduced colonial rights. This resulted in the Massachusetts House calling for the removal of the Governor.
William Heath was a prominent Massachusetts patriot. With the outbreak of the American Revolution, Heath was named one of the first four major generals to be appointed by the Continental Congress in 1776.
Condition: Creased along folds and toned. Small open tears to all margins and very small separations along folds to right margin of the first page and integral page center. Light staining to both pages. Tape repairs to the right margin of the first page verso, recto, and integral page verso.
