Description

George Taylor Clipped Signature. 3" x 1". Signed "Geo. Taylor." Heavily stained with ink bleedthrough from the verso. Taylor (circa 1716-1781) was an ironsmith by trade and secured a commission by the Pennsylvania Committee of Safety to produce cannon balls for the war effort. A delegate to the Continental Congress and a signer of the Declaration of Independence, he was commissioned a colonel in the Pennsylvania Militia in 1775 and one of his first duties as a congressman was to sign the Declaration of Independence.
