Description
George Clinton Document Signed, "Geo. Clinton". One page, 18" x 11", September 13, 1790, New York, New York, partially printed, with docketing on the verso. The document, granting 600 acres of land in Locke Township, Montgomery County, New York to John Jeremiah, retains the original 3.5" paper-covered wax seal of the State of New York affixed by ribbon. Two holes and weakness at the folds of the document, else near fine.More Information:
The seal was commissioned by George Clinton and designed by John Jay and Gouverneur Morris, and John Sloss Hobart. The obverse of the seal pictures the sun rising over the Hudson Highlands and the river in the foreground and a riband below with the motto "Excelsior". The obverse shows a tall ragged rock rising out of a turbulent sea with the motto "Frustra" above and "1777" below.
