Declaration of Independence Signer Josiah Bartlett Document Signed. 7 1/2 x 2 inches, Kingston, New Hampshire; January 3, 1769. A promissory note for payment from Constable John Jenkins to Captain John Lad, Jr., "for taking care of Sarah Welch." Signed, "J. Bartlett" as a Selectman of Kingston.

Josiah Bartlett was a doctor turned statesman and politician, being the second signer of the Declaration of Independence as well as a signatory on the Articles of Confederation. He went on to become the first president of the State of New Hampshire and later served as associate justice, and then chief justice for the New Hampshire Supreme Court.

Condition: Moderate edgewear, including a bit of loss at the bottom left corner and chip at the right margin.
