Description
David Levy Yulee Autograph Letter Signed. One page with integral address cover, 8" x 10"; Washington; February 14, 1842. "Your letter for Gov. Cole has been forwarded. Col. Francis L. Dancy, St. Augustine, Flo. Is the address of a son-in-law of Gov. Reid, decd. Yours respy. D. Levy." With integral address cover addressed in his hand bearing a second franking signature.With a second letter signed "D.L. Yulee" dated New York, April 18, 1859. One and a quarter pages of a bifolium, 8" x 10". Long docket in pencil on the verso.
David Levy Yulee (1810-1886) was an American politician and attorney. He was the first person of Jewish ancestry to be elected to the Senate. Born David Levy, he added the surname Yulee soon after his marriage to Nancy Wickliffe in 1846.
Condition: Light age toning and flattened folds. Light soiling and one ink stain. The 1859 letter has bright paper with soiling on the verso.
