Description
Benjamin Franklin Pay Order Signed "B Franklin / Presdt." One page, 8" x 6.25" (sight), Philadelphia, April 12, 1786. Addressed to Treasurer David Rittenhouse, Franklin, as governor of Pennsylvania, orders payment to "Colonel William Henry Lieutenant of the City and Liberties of Philadelphia or order the sum of One hundred and fifty Pounds specie for defraying the Contingent Expences of Exercising the Militia of the City and Liberties aforesaid - to be paid out of the Militia fines." Light toning along the vertical folds with some separation near the edges. The body of the document is beautifully scripted in an unknown hand; the text and Franklin's signature are bold. Matted with a portrait of Franklin to an overall size of 15.75" x 26.25".Auction Info
