Description

Benjamin Cardozo Autograph letter Signed. One page, 5 1/8 x 6 3/8 inches, White Plains, [New York]; August 8, 1936. A brief letter to New York lawyer Harold Roland Shapiro, sending his congratulations. In full:

"Thanks for your interesting letter, and congratulations." Signed, "Benjamin N. Cardozo."

Cardozo was the second Jewish justice to be appointed to the Supreme Court; the first was Louis Brandeis, appointed in 1916. Cardozo served from 1932 until his death in 1938.

Condition: Lightly age-toned with a single flattened fold. Rough left edge. Very minor ink blotting, not affecting legibility.
