Description

Alexander Hamilton Printed Letter Signed. One page, 7.25" x 9"; Treasury Department; September 15, 1792. A printed letter giving notice of bills of exchange that may be misdirected. In part: "A letter to William Gardner, Commissioner of Loans for New-Hampfhire, containing bills of exchange to the amount of Five Thousand Dollars, drawn by the Treasurer of the United States in favor of the faid Commiffioner of Loans, was put into the Poft-Office at Philadelphia, on the 17th of Auguft laft. As the letter in queftion has not reached its place of deftination on the 7th inftant, and as from the Bills being drawn with blanks for the direction, there is a poffibility in cafe of mifcarriage (either from accident or defign) that an attempt will be made to addrefs them to persons in the receipt of public monies..." A list of the drafts is printed at bottom. Signed, "A Hamilton."

Condition: Evenly toned. Rough along left margin where integral sheet has been removed. Creasing along right margin at bottom and at top corner. Small chip of paper at right margin. Loss of paper at center left, where wax seal has been torn open.
