Description
Alexander Hamilton Circular Signed "A. Hamilton." Two pages, 7" x 8.75", "Treasury Department," December 18, 1789. Hamilton, as secretary of the treasury, here signs his name to a letter sent to the various "collectors" regarding his "expectation with regard to the conduct to be observed by them." He goes on to say that "if the Bonds are not paid . . . they be immediately put in Suit. . . . And accordingly it will be expected that every bond, which shall appear in a monthly return, after the period at which it was payable, be accompanied with a note at foot of the return, signifying that it is in Suit." Docketed on the verso. Weakness of the folds is causing separation at the edges. Some chipping of the edges.Auction Info
