[Texas Republic] Francis R. Lubbock Document Signed as comptroller. One partly printed certificate, 6.75" x 3.25", September 1, 1837, "City of Houston", and listed as number 1189. This $100 certificate was issued to John Dunn and is countersigned by Stock Commissioner William G. Cook. John Dunn has endorsed the certificate on the verso. Very good.

Consolidated funds of Texas were authorized by a June 7, 1837, Act of Congress entitled "An Act to authorize the consolidation and funding the Public Debt". These stocks bore interest at the rate of "ten per centum per annum" and were redeemable after September 1, 1842. Francis Lubbock (1815-1905) served as the ninth governor of Texas, taking office during the Civil War. Earlier in 1836, Texas Republic President Sam Houston appointed Lubbock comptroller. John Dunn (?-1853) was the first alcalde of Refugio, Texas.
