[French and Indian War]. Thomas Fitch Military Appointment Signed "Thos. Fitch." One partially-printed page with integral blank, 12.5" x 8", Hartford, February 23, 1757. Fitch, as "Captain General, and Governor in Chief, in and over His Majesty's English Colony of Connecticut," appoints "Edmund Wells to be Captain of the Eleventh Company in the Regiment of Foot, ordered to be raised within this Colony to act in Conjunction with the King's Troops under the Command of His Excellency the Earl of Loudoun, General, and Commander in Chief, of all His Majesty's Forces in North America." Countersigned by George Wyllys (1710-1796) as secretary of state. Wyllys was the great-grandson of George Wyllys, the 4th governor of the Colony of Connecticut (1642-1643). Nearly intact red wax seal at the left edge. Slight separation of the folds at the edges. Areas of light foxing and two areas of staining from the seal.
