Description

Robert E. Lee Document Signed "R E Lee". One page with docketing, 10" x 15.5", San Antonio, Texas, October 4, 1860. Sometimes the military bureaucracy is simply amazing. This "Equipment and Inspection Report" listing a "Book marked 'Past Morning Report'" is paperwork accounting for paperwork. Given the signatures, several officers, including Lee, were giving attention to the whereabouts of a blank book! This, at a time when Comanches and Seccessionists were seriously threatening Federal authority in Texas! One of the endorsement panels on the verso carries Robert E Lee's distinctive signature as a Brevet Colonel. Some light browning on folds, else fine condition. Housed in a custom library case having titles stamped in gold on the cover and the spine.
