Description

Robert Darwin Autograph Letter Signed " RW Darwin." One page of a bifolium, 4.5" x 7", no place; " Wednesday 26" [January 26, 1842. In a short letter addressed to Thomas Salt, Esq., Robert Darwin (father to Charles Darwin) writes in part: "... I have a cold or I would come at once to you. I can call tomw upon you I dare say, unless you can without trouble give me your instructions by a note..."

Robert Darwin funded his son's expedition on the Beagle, where Charles Darwin conceived of his theories on evolution, and also whose investments allowed Charles to pursue a career as a naturalist. Thomas Salt was the family's financial advisor, so the two men were frequently in contact about Charles' finances.

Condition: Flattened mail fold, with light toning at the edges. There is a small hole torn at the left center edge, minimally affecting the text. Boldly signed.
