Description
Winston Churchill Photograph Signed. 20.75" x 17.25" (sight). This photograph was taken on November 24, 1954, by New Zealand-born photographer Douglas Glass as one of a series taken in celebration of the prime minister's eightieth birthday (six days later). Churchill, who was in the last months of his second and final term as prime minister, is seen sitting in the Cabinet room at Number 10 Downing Street, two broadcast microphones sitting on the desk before him, conjuring up images of Churchill during the war. Below his image he has placed his signature. The area around the signature shows spots of foxing. The photograph, which is incorrectly identified by a small plaque reading, "Sir Winston Churchill / 8th May 1945 / 'Radio Broadcast on VE Day,'" is matted and framed to an overall size of 28.75" x 25.25".Alfred George Douglas Glass (1901-1978) immigrated to the U.K. in 1928 and was a photographer for the United Nations before producing the series, "The Portrait Gallery," for the Sunday Times from 1949 until 1961.
