Description

Vyacheslav Molotov Signed Photograph. 7 5/8 x 11 3/8 inches, Vienna; May 15, 1955. A color photograph of Molotov, dated the day after Molotov signed the Warsaw Pact in Vienna. Signed in blue ink (in Russian): "With best wishes! / V. Molotov."

Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Molotov was a close ally of Joseph Stalin and self-described "professional revolutionary." In 1917, his involvement in the February Revolution impressed Stalin, who became his political mentor. Molotov served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1939 to 1949 during World War II, but rapidly lost favor with Stalin following the end of the war.

After Stalin's death in 1953, Molotov was reinstated by Georgy Malenkov, Stalin's successor as General Secretary of the Communist Party. Returning to his role as Foreign Minister, Molotov led the Soviet delegation to Vienna on May 14, 1955, where he signed the Warsaw Pact.

Condition: Lightly toned with very minor edgewear. Date annotated in green ink on the verso.
