Description
Tsar Nicholas I Document Signed. One page (in Russian), 7 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches, St. Petersburg; April 10, 1832. A military commission bestowing the Order of Saint Anna, Third Class, to Captain Rsitchev for his "...excellent service [in] the Petersburg Police Department and in the Semyonovsky Lifeguard Regiment." Boldly signed, "Nikolai" (in Cyrillic) at the conclusion.The Semyonovsky Lifeguard Regiment was one of the oldest guard regiments of the Imperial Army, founded in 1683 as a "toy army" of the young Peter the Great. It was initially composed of his playmates and other young attendants of his father's court. By 1685, however, the Lifeguard had grown to a force of 300 and contained both artillery and cavalry regiments.
