Description

Pope Francis worn and signed zucchetto with attestation by his private secretary

Pope Francis Worn and Signed White Zucchetto (Skullcap). Vatican City; December 4, 2023. A white silk zucchetto typically worn by the Pope for daily use outside of liturgical functions. Signed by His Holiness in black felt-tip marker with the Italian version of his name, "Francesco," on the inner lining.

This lot is accompanied by a Papal certificate signed by His Holiness' Private Secretary Don Fabio Salerno (appointed in early 2020), stating that the zucchetto is confirmed to have been worn and signed by "Sua Santità Papa Francesco." Also included is a certificate of provenance and shipping box from Charity Stars, the auction that originally offered the item on December 28, 2023 in support of the non-profit History Life Onlus. Heritage previously sold a zucchetto signed by Pope Francis in our August 2025 auction for $13,750. In this instance, the zucchetto is not only signed but is attested to have been worn by the Pope. Via news reporting, it is known that the Pope made a total of four such donations.

Condition: The zucchetto is in near fine condition, with only slight feathering at the signature. Original shipping box opened with minor wear from regular handling.
