Description
King George III Document Signed. Two pages and one sheet with docketing panel, 8 x 12 1/2 inches, St. James's, [London]; March 11, 1782. A document appropriating funds for the 102nd Regiment of Foot of the British Army, also known as the "Royal Madras Fusiliers." Signed by the King of England just one year before the end of the American War of Independence, "George III."The document reads, in part: "Whereas we were pleased to direct that Our 102nd Regiment of Foot should be formed from the 24th of September 1781 under the command of...Major General William Rowley, consisting of twelve Companies of five Sergeants, five Corporals, two Drummers, and One hundred Private men in each, with two Fifers to the Grenadier Company...And Whereas in order to furnish the additional non commissioned Officers and Private men of Our said Regiment with Swords, Leather Accoutrements, and other Species of Clothing...We have therefore directed to paid in Money the Net Value of 121 days Offreckonings..."
Condition: Lightly toned with smoothed folds; a few folds just starting, not affecting text. Rough left edge where pages were separated at the integral fold. Adhesive staining and mounting remnants on verso.
