Description

King Christian IX of Denmark Document Signed, four integral, gilt edged pages written on page one, 8.5" x 13.5", Copenhagen, June 30, 1879, in French . Two central folds and overall browning, else near fine. The document is addressed to Cesáreo Guillermo congratulating him on becoming the President of the Dominican Republic. Four of Christian IX's children became monarchs, sitting on the thrones (either directly or as a consort) of Denmark, Great Britain, Russia, and Greece. Christian's grandsons included Nicholas II of Russia, Constantine I of Greece, George V of the United Kingdom, Christian X of Denmark, and Haakon VII of Norway. He was, in the last years of his life, named Europe's "father-in-law". Today, most of Europe's reigning and ex-reigning royal families are direct descendants of Christian IX.
