Description

Charles Darwin Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 4.25" x 7" (sight), Down Farnborough, Kent; July 27, [1849]. Sent to the family's financial advisor, Thomas Salt, from the Darwin home in Kent. It is written on mourning stationery presumed to be in respect of Darwin's father who died in late 1848. It reads in full: "I received the enclosed yesterday from my Brother, with the request that I should return them to you." During this period Salt was working on the estate of Darwin's deceased father, Robert Darwin, and the enclosed items were likely in regards to that. Signed, "C. Darwin." Slabbed by Beckett Grading Services to the overall size of 6" x 9". A Certificate of Authenticity from John Reznikoff accompanies the lot.

Condition: 1.25" closed tear at lower left margin with .75" closed tear at center. Smoothed folds with light toning.
