Albrecht von Graefe Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 5" x 8", no place; no date. Sent to an unnamed recipient, the letter is written in German and accompanied with a partial English translation. It reads in part: "I only had a quick look at the bearer of this letter...but apparently without any anomaly of the visual field's periphery...which has to be examined...I didn't have the time...I don't feel well with my lungs. I'll go for two months to the Mediterranean in order to recuperate and will, as much as such calculations are possible, return April 15."

Albrecht von Graefe (1828-1870) was a Prussian ophthalmologist who is widely considered as the founder of modern ophthalmology. He developed several surgical treatments for eye disorders including cataracts, and iridectomy.
